Just a bit about January

Here is a glance at what we've been up to in January!

Our morning work has started to look a bit different lately. We are now doing "Math Menu" which gives us the chance to choose between various activities to practice different mathematical skills. The skills that we are practicing range from making patterns to writing numbers to counting small and large amounts. One option that is a favorite is our iPad station!
We have been working on lowercase and uppercase letters. Sometimes we break into small groups and work on different hands-on activities. We have sorted letters, matched letters, and practiced writing letters.
We have also been working on our sight words during literacy time. Sight words are the words that we see most often in books and stories. We have a word garden which shows us all of the words that we have learned. We'll continue building onto it as the year goes on. Sometimes we do fun activities that help us practice our sight words. We use playdough and even paint to make the words.
As much as we work hard in literacy and math we like to play hard too! Here are some pictures from successful building projects during choice time.
