Wednesday in the Woods, June 1st

The day that...
we ate s'mores to celebrate the last forest day!

This morning we had a "thanking the forest" ceremony.  We had a stick and we threw it in the fire.  We said thank you to the forest.  We said thank you for the sticks to make the fire, thank you for the sticks to have a band, thank you for everything.

We ate s'mores for snack today.  Eastern Chipmunk's marshmallow fell off her stick.  They were yummy.  You need a marshmallow, chocolate and two graham crackers to make a s'more.  First you put the marshmallow on a stick and hold it over a fire.  Then you make a sandwich with the hot marshmallow and the chocolate between the graham crackers.

We were painting water colors by the brook.  You could paint anything you wanted it could be something you saw or something you imagined. Some kids painted a froggy, a rainbow, and a sled.  We found a frog!  It was a baby.  It was very tiny - about the size of a small rock.

These students are clearing out the muck so the water can go faster.  Jumping Mouse invited Woodpecker to help him.  She was glad to help. We made a waterfall and a river. When we were clearing out the muck, Jumping Mouse's shovel went through the tunnel.

This student is untying a rope.  We were taking the tarp shelter down. Some of the students untied ropes while others held the logs so they would not fall down.  River Otter was in charge of carrying the logs to a safe place.  He was the head and sometimes he would have a partner be the tail. We pulled the tarp and then we spread it out and shook it off.  Then we put it flat again to dry.

It was our last day in the forest so we made a picture and wrote words to describe our favorite thing about forest days. Our work will go into our very own book.

In this station we made collections.  A collection is a group of things that has something in common.  Mrs. T made a collection of green things.  Eastern chipmunk made a collection of brown things.  Woodpecker made a collection of roots. Jumping Mouse made a collection of bark.

At the end of the day, some of us tried to pull a root out of the ground with a rope.  We didn't get it out!

It was 70 degrees today.  When we put the thermometer in the sun it went all the way up to 120!  It was a really hot day.  We made a collection of stuff and we ate s'mores.
